# Generate images in Studio

> Create an image or a background from a text prompt, inside the design editor.

Studio can make an image from a description, and can generate just a background for a design you're already building.

## Generate an image

> Generate images from text prompts

Describe what you want and Studio produces an image on the canvas, where you can then crop, filter, layer text over it, or [edit it further](/help/studio-ai-images). **Generate another** gives you a different take on the same prompt.

## Generate a background

> Generate backgrounds from text prompts

The same idea aimed at the canvas behind your design — a texture, a gradient, a scene for text to sit on. Usually a better move than generating a full image and hiding most of it, because you can describe something deliberately simple and keep the foreground readable.

## Writing a prompt that works

**Describe the subject and the setting, not the style.** Studio reads your brand's colours and visual identity, so the look should come from there rather than from you restating it every time. See [Set up your brand](/help/set-up-your-brand).

**Say what the image is for.** An image that will carry a headline needs space for one — asking for a composition with room at the top gets you something usable rather than something you have to fight.

**Be concrete.** *A flat lay of walking boots and a map on pale wood, shot from above* gives more to work with than *outdoor gear*.

## In Studio or in the composer?

Two different jobs:

| | |
| ------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **[The AI post composer](/help/generate-images)** | You want a caption *and* images together, ready to schedule |
| **Studio** | You want one image you'll then design around — text over it, logo on it, cropped to a format |

If the image is the post, generate it in the composer. If the image is a layer in something you're building, generate it here.

## Generated images aren't finished images

The first result is a starting point. The designs that look deliberate usually involve a generated image plus your own crop, your brand colours, and text placed where it belongs — not the raw output published as-is.
