Keywords are the searches you want to be found for. Hashtags are the tags your posts use. Both live in Brand settings, in their own sections: SEO keywords and Hashtags.

Select Brand in the sidebar, then the section you want.

Detect them

Select Detect SEO keywords or Detect hashtags. One run fills both lists. The button says what it is doing as it goes: Reading your brand…, Researching searches…, Picking the best ones…

Ocoya reads your name, description and website, so you need a Description or a Website first. Without either, it says: “Add a description or website to the brand first, so its keywords can be found.”

  • Keywords: Ocoya researches searches people make for what you offer, drops logins, other companies’ names and off-topic ideas, and keeps up to 12 that fit. Your own brand name is left out.
  • Hashtags: it suggests up to 15, aimed at your category, topics and audience rather than the biggest tags on a network.

Results are added to your lists for you to review, not saved. Select Save to keep them. After the first run the button reads Detect more. If a list is already full, it is greyed out.

Edit them

Type a keyword or hashtag and press Enter. A comma also adds it, and a hashtag is added on a space too. You can paste a list. Remove one with the x on its chip.

So “#Small Business” is stored as smallbusiness, and shown as #smallbusiness. Hashtags keep letters, numbers and underscores only. When a list is full, the field says how many is the most a brand can have.

Search volumes

A keyword Ocoya found shows a small magnifier and a number on its chip, such as 1.2K. Hover it to read “N Google searches a month”. When you type a keyword yourself, Ocoya looks up its volume a moment later and adds it if it finds one. If it doesn’t, the chip simply shows no number.

Where they are used

Keywords

  • Post editor’s SEO score for articles: it checks the article against your keywords, and one of its checks is Article targets one of your brand keywords. If your brand has none, the first time you open it for an article Ocoya detects some and saves them. Otherwise, it tells you to add them in brand settings.
  • Article campaigns: your keywords lead the research, and Ocoya widens around them for the campaign’s brief.
  • AI writing: your keywords are included in the brand context the AI reads, so it writes toward them.

Hashtags

  • AI campaigns add your hashtags to the posts while the brand is switched on in the composer. Switch it off and they add none.
  • Post editor: your hashtags are what the hashtag suggestions offer. If you have none, it shows a default set.

An AI tool connected to Ocoya or the REST API can read your keywords, with their monthly searches, and your hashtags, and replace them: up to 20 keywords and 200 hashtags.

They count toward your Brand score

Five or more of each earns 10 points each, one to four earns 5. See Brand score.

If you pay for a plan, Ocoya fills in empty keywords and hashtags for you in the background when you add a brand. Free brands detect them from the button.
